Privacy Policy
Who we are
An Fáidh (anfaidh.com) is an independent journal run from Ireland. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.
Contact us about anything in this policy at editor@anfaidh.com.
We collect as little as we can, we never sell your data, and we don't use advertising or third-party tracking.
What we collect
- Account details: your email address and, if you give it, your name, when you subscribe.
- Subscription details: your plan, its status and payment history. Card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- Emails you send us: including submissions to submissions@anfaidh.com, with any work and personal details they contain.
- Technical data: your IP address, browser type and the pages requested, recorded in our server logs when you visit.
How we use it
Purpose | Data used | Legal basis (GDPR) |
|---|---|---|
Running your subscription and giving you access to articles | Account, subscription | Contract |
Sending sign-in links and account or billing emails | Account | Contract |
Reading and replying to submissions and correspondence | Emails you send us | Legitimate interest |
Keeping the site secure and working | Technical data | Legitimate interest |
Keeping financial records | Subscription | Legal obligation |
We don't use your data for profiling or automated decisions.
Who we share it with
- 1984 ehf. (Iceland): hosts our website and email servers. Iceland is in the European Economic Area, so GDPR applies there.
- Stripe: processes payments. Stripe may transfer data to the United States under its own safeguards; see Stripe's privacy policy.
We share data with no one else, except where the law requires it.
Cookies
We only use cookies that the site needs to work: one keeps you signed in as a subscriber, and staff cookies do the same for editors. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so we don't show a cookie banner.
Stripe sets its own cookies on its checkout pages to prevent fraud.
How long we keep it
- Account details: while you're subscribed, and deleted within 90 days of you closing your account or asking us to.
- Payment records: six years, as Irish tax law requires.
- Submissions and correspondence: up to two years, or longer if we publish your work and need the record.
- Server logs: 30 days.
Your rights
Under GDPR you can ask us to:
- give you a copy of your data
- correct it
- delete it
- restrict or object to how we use it
- send it to you in a portable format
Email editor@anfaidh.com and we'll reply within one month. You can also update your details or cancel your subscription yourself from your account page.
If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission in Ireland.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use your data, we'll email subscribers first.
